The Ten Essentials

When venturing into the bush, safety is always the first requirement. Whether it’s for a week-long trip or just a day walk everyone should know what the ten essentials entails. The ten essentials have been designed to give a hiker a wealth of resources to survive in a number of different and extreme conditions is the situation arises. If someone gets caught out in the bush and has to be rescued they probably didn’t follow the ten essentials, putting lives in danger.

These essentials can be tweaked and changed according to the weather, altitude, distance, length of trip and/or size of the group, so don’t think it’s a definitive list. Feel free to change them slightly to suit your needs but remember to keep the core items. The key to an enjoyable hike or trip is to be prepared and the ten essentials should be at the top of every camper’s list.
